Lavenders Blue, dilly dilly.
To make my own product for my shelves has been a great deal of fun.
My Lavenders in the garden provide a great source of nectar for the bees, whilst having an amazing scent when you brush past them. My girls love looking at the wildlife they attract and my eldest has a particular love of nature. My youngest (1) I had to remind not to stroke the bees this year!
The flowers were just getting to the stage where they were going to turn. To keep it from going woody as Lavender can do, I pruned them. I ended up with a whole trug full of flowers! Why waste them I thought! So, there the idea was born.
I made at least 12 bunches and hung it from a beam in my garage to dry. It smelled amazing in there. Every time I opened the door the welcoming, heady scent hit you. A couple of weeks later it had dried nicely. Time to add to the organza and cotton bags.
My kitchen looked and smelled like a Lavender farm. I painstakingly removed each purple Corolla from the stem and placed into a bowl. My eldest loved helping with this process. I then added some rice, this adds weight to the bags but, also helps to draw out moisture. Each bag was then filled and tied, then placed on my shelves at Dovecote Beauty. They smell divine.
They are perfect for…
In your wardrobe- Lavender is a natural moth repellent. It will also make your sock drawer smell beautiful.
In the car- A natural air freshener. Much better than those trees!
By your desk- Feeling stressed and anxious at work, then keep one to inhale occasionally by your work station. Your colleagues will be envious.
By your bed- Lavender helps keep you calm and relaxed. It is traditionally used in aromatherapy for inhalations and mindfulness. The amount I’ve inhaled making these bags I should be comatose!
I can’t wait for you to take a small part of my garden away with you when you come
In for your treatments. I enjoy looking after many plants in my garden, with Sweet Peas and Dahlias popping up in vases in my treatment room this time of year. I use my Rosemary in your foot bowls for pedicures as a natural anti fungal. I love how my garden also works for my business.
